Ways To Save Money On Groceries

4172729538.jpgWith the way the economy is these days it is wise to try to save money and with the rising cost of food that may seem impossible to do. I have taken the time to help you reduce your grocery bill with some of these tips found below:

1. Make a list for each trip to the grocery store- Pretty much everyone has at least once in their lifetime arrived home with a large cart full of groceries, only to find that the food item he or she went to the grocery store for did not get purchased. If this has happened to you probally had to make a second trip to the grocery store to purchase the item that you forgot to get and that takes money to drive all the way back. You could of used that gas money on something else. Now if you have children you can allow them to choose one grocery item a week to cut the risk of whinning.

2. Use coupons- If you look in your sunday paper you will find alot of them. Also if you have a computer with a printer you can print coupons found online and use them during sales to double the savings. I should also mention that every once in awhile you can get a food item for free in this manner.

3. Say goodbye to brand names- When you purchase brand names you are not paying for better taste or a better item. You are just paying more for the box and the name of the product thats it. When you buy generic or store brands you will save more money for the exact same thing as name brands anyway.

4. Eat less meat- With the price of meat constantly rising it would be wise to go without eating meat at some meals during the week. If there is a sale on meat going on it may be wise to stock up your supply.

5. Cut the caffeine- Sure some of us need our coffee to function in the morning, but if you cut your consumption of caffeine products in half you will save alot of money. Now on the other hand if there is a sale going on be sure to stock up on your most used caffeine products whenever possible.

6. Forget the precooked food- Alright if you can not stand your own cooking you should cut the buying of precooked foods in half and just buy microwave type foods you will save more money this way. Again if there is a big sale going on with precooked foods then you may take a chance to stock up before the sale ends otherwise you can forget it.

7. Never ever go to the grocery store hungry- Hunger tends to cause even the most careful of us to spend money on expensive munchies that are a waste of money and full of empty calories. From here on out eat something before leaving to the grocery store to stop the impulses or reduce the munchie urge.

8. Use the food that you buy- Sure 5 containers of cookie dough for $5 is a great saving deal, but ask yourself are you going to use this food item or are you just going to let it sit in the fridge? Also if the food item is not on your list it may be more wise to just pass it by a few dollars here and there can really add up big time.

9. Buy frozen produce- With the price of fresh produce rising it is cheaper to buy them frozen. Frozen produce retains most of its nutrition value and is the best for saving money in your wallet.

10. Buy bulk food items- They are better for the earth by reducing waste. Also buying in bulk tends to be better money wise than pre-packaged items.

11. Shop alone- Having extra people with you during the trip to the grocery store can really add up and lead you to buy items you don’t really need.

I use coupons all the time. I am the coupon queen. I have a file I take with me in case I forgot something on my list (yes, I am a list maker - for everything). My store takes expired coupons, which makes me even happier. I found that the stores even have coupons on their website. Some to print, some that you can sign up for and have added to you store value card.

I buy whatever brand is on sale. Except for a few things. There are certain things that taste different from brand to brand. Like cream cheese. And OJ. But I buy on sale with coupons! :D

And yes, shopping when hungry is the kiss of death!
